1. Assemble the Borby sinking hammer and the Borby Driver unit together.
2. Place the Borby Tube over the end of the Borby Driver unit until it hits the stop. IMPORTANT: Do no cut the Borby Tube at this stage!

3. See the Where and How to use section of this website for placement of the tubes
4. Using the sinking hammer, drive the Borby Driver unit into the ground to the required depth.
5. Extract the driver unit by lifting up on the lower handle and pushing down on the upper handle.
6. Whilst still holding the lower handle (now in the upper position) lift the driver unit clear of the tube.
7. Place the driver unit on the ground and allow the extraction handle to return to its original position.
8. Turn the driver unit upside down and strike the driver against the hammer to remove the plug of soil.
9. Important: Please check that the unit is empty. This must be done after each insertion.
10. The excess of the Borby Tube can now be cut to the required length.
11. Fit the cap and water as required.

Please note: More leverage is achieved by pulling up on the lower handle rather than pushing down on the upper handle. See the Where and How to use section before inserting the tubes. Remember the golden rule that shallow is OK, as the feed water will seep out of the tube and fall down deeper, but if you install them to deep then you may end up delivering the water below your plants root system. The Driver cuts a hole that will be 50mm deeper than the final inserted depth of the tube, this enables you to tap the tube in deeper after the driver has been removed for fine adjustment.

The Borby Driver is not suitable for use in loose muddy conditions as the plug of soil will be hard to remove. As a guide to conditions, if you find that the mud sticks to your boots or shovel then it will probably stick to the inside of the driver.
